WILLOWIND GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS

How We House and Raise our Puppies:
Dams and pups are housed separately from the main kennel to ensure the dam has peace and quiet to focus on her babies. Breeding females have large kennel areas attached to the whelping house. Our dogs get daily walks and play time to keep them happy and stress free. We feel nothing is more important for mental health in dogs than exercise and companionship.

We are firm believers in early puppy socialization and training. We treat each puppy as if he were going to be with us a lifetime. With this approach we ensure our pups are people oriented not overly dog oriented. We wean pups according to their maturity level and the mother’s natural instinct to nurse or wean.

Starting at 4 - 5 weeks we spend individual time with pups and separate them from the litter for increasing amounts of time i.e.., crate training, short walks. Crate training is well started or completed depending on pups age by the time they go to new homes. We have found these early weeks are important for preparing the puppy for independence, focus and bonding with their human pack.

Dams and pups are fed Purina Pro Plan Puppy. We supplement with Puppy Peak Grow, and the antioxidant Blue Green Algae to improve immune systems, all our dogs eat BGA. We do not believe in the over vaccinations of very young pups. We use Puppy Proguard - Distemper/ Parvo versus the six way vaccines at six weeks. Normally Pups leave between 6 and 7 weeks of age.

We start with good genetics. Then with proper pre & postnatal care we can offer social and stable German Shepherd Dogs for pet or sport homes. This is an overall view of the care and puppy you can expect with a Willowind breeding!
